Law career advice at Kaplan Law School

Kaplan Law School has a dedicated law career advice service which is available to you from the day you pay your deposit until a year after graduation to assist you with your legal career search and advise on legal career opportunities. Our team of specialist advisers and personal tutors work closely with the legal profession to give you up-to-date law career information and advice.

Before you embark on a career in law it is important you undertake some research to find out what is required in terms of skills, qualifications and experience.  You also need to think about what sort of lawyer you want to be and where you want to work.

Our aim is to support you fully with your law career aspirations and to help you reach informed career choices. You will get the support that you need and the opportunity to meet with many different employers during the course year. Taking part in our law career information sessions will help you develop vital legal skills whilst at law school.

We offer you the following individual support:

  • Guidance on how to formulate a law career plan and develop an effective legal career search strategy
  • Skills analysis and how to highlight what sets you apart from the rest
  • Notification of legal career opportunities, including training contracts, pupillages and work experience
  • Regular updates on careers developments in the legal profession
  • Notification of networking events such as presentations at law firms, Inns of Court, Junior Lawyers Division and careers fairs
  • CV appraisal to tailor it to the legal market
  • Review of your applications for training contracts, pupillage, vacation scheme placements, mini-pupillage and applications for work experience

Opportunites at law school
There are various ways in which you can get legal experience and develop your skills whilst at law school. Taking part in debating or mooting will develop your public speaking skills and you will gain in confidence. The Debating Society will give you the opportunity to join in debates about current legal and political issues and topics. Our mooting competition gives you the opportunity to learn about court language and etiquette and develop your research and team working skills. Last year finals were heard by Judge Roger Chapelle who is a senior judge of the Inner London Crown Court.

Our Pro bono Scheme is going from strength to strength and participation will give you a really good opportunity to get legal experience whilst at law school.
