Why study the LPC Part-time?
Kaplan Law School will be offering the LPC part time course from September 2011.
As a part time student you will enjoy the same standards of content, materials, tuition, assessment and facilities as for the full-time course plus other additional benefits:
- The course is studied in a way which suits your busy schedule and minimises time away from homes or work
- The fees are payable in stages (with the exception of fully sponsored students), which can be an attractive proposition financially, particularly for those with family or other commitments
- Studying part-time whilst working allows a true integration of academic and practical training. There is the potential to qualify as a solicitor just as quickly as your full-time colleagues.
What do you study on the LPC Part-time course?
The course structure is as follows:
Year One
Three compulsory subjects which run from September to June:
- Business
- Property
- Litigation (civil and criminal)
In addition you will also study probate, research / writing, conduct, tax, accounts, interviewing and advocacy.
Skills
As with the full-time LPC, skills training covers advocacy, interviewing, research and writing and drafting. Skills are genuinely integrated, with each skill being placed in the context of one of the LPC subject areas, keeping theoretical material to a minimum. Assessment of the compulsory subjects takes place in the September of Year Two.
Year Two
The second year starts in October with a choice of three elective subjects.
Assessment of elective subjects takes place in June of Year Two.
How do you study the LPC part time?
Our part-time LPC is delivered by weekend/evening attendance over a two year period, broadly following the same teaching pattern as the full-time LPC.
Importantly, however, an increased amount of blended learning in Year 2 will reduce student attendance requirements.
Teaching on the part-time course is by subject specialists, most of whom also teach on the full-time course.
Student support during the LPC part time course
We appreciate the challenges of combining distance-learning study with demanding jobs and personal lives, and we therefore support our students in a variety of ways:
- A personal tutor for both years of the programme and have email and telephone access to their tutors
- Access to course materials and timetabling is available via the Internet
- Mock assessments with full feedback for every compulsory subject
- Access to the full range of Law School support services
- A professional social networking site to assist in communication and sharing of experiences within the group during the part time LPC
